Using Acorn to process color negatives

I am about to embark on a new project: I have lots of 35mm color negatives (mainly Kodak VR200 and VR400) that I want to scan and convert. The basic technique is this: using a dSLR with good quality macro lens and a flash unit to obtain the scans. But then, I need to invert the negatives and remove the orange mask to get a ‘normal’ photo.

Is there a documented method to do this in Acorn of Retrobatch? There is dedicated software available (Negative Lab Pro), but only as a plugin for Lightroom, which I would like to avoid.

There’s nothing built in to either Retrobatch or Acorn for this.

This comes up from time to time, but I haven’t been able to really give it a good look. If you do scan some negatives in, I can take a look at them and maybe come up with a solution (it’s probably more than just an invert filter).
