I’ve been getting disappointed with Affinity Designer’s support for SVG, specifically when it comes to export for use in laser cutting. I also have Acorn but have not explored it as much as I could have, particular with respect to vector tools and input:output formats.
Has anyone used Acorn for exporting dimensionally accurate — and perhaps layered — SVG for use with laser cutting or Cricut or anything like that?
The import/export support for SVG is described as basic in the manual and I’ve always thought of the app as more of a bitmap editor “plus,” but it’s worth asking. Some of the other Acorn features could be useful with laser cutting and laser engraving.
When you do try out Acorn’s SVG import / export, and if you find it lacking - make sure to let me know about what you’re missing. SVG isn’t a huge use case in Acorn, but I really like it so I try to improve bits and pieces of it when I can.
My initial thought when opening a new document with an eye towards laser cutting is that the document setup felt like it was all about pixel editing.
That’s fine; my primary use for Acorn has generally been editing existing pixel images.
For the purposes of laser cutting/engraving or Cricut — makerspace stuff — I’d want to setup a document for specific dimensions in metric or imperial. I’d want the tools to follow from that and be resolution-independent.
