Noob question about transparent pixels and bounding box

The only way to do that is to make a specific selection with the selection tool, or add a rectangle shape that’s 160 x 160, and use the Selection ▸ Make Selection from Layer menu item.

What I sometimes do is fill the transparent area with a unique solid colour whilst I’m working. Then when I’m done use the wand to make that solid colour transparent again.

This works for moving and alignment, 90 degree rotations, flips etc.

You wouldn’t want to rotate arbitrary angles with the solid colour in place as it would merge with the edges of the image.

Thank you both for helping me out. Thank you ccgus for bearing with me; I appreciate it!

Another alternative is to calculate the final position margins yourself. and then move the pasted image there from the corner using the cursor keys (which move one pixel art a time, or ten pixels if you hold shift)

X=(160-96)/2 = 32 pixels
Y=(160-144)/2 = 8 pixels

Another way is to set up some guide lines to help you.
