I don’t know if this is an Acorn issue or a MacOS issue but once I upgraded to Sequoia (MacOS 15), I no longer get image previews for .acorn files. I just get the very uninformative page with a corner turned down, the Acorn icon and “Acorn” across the bottom, like it’s 1999, and hitting the spacebar for Preview just brings up that icon image. It’s a little infuriating to get my flow-state broken constantly. I haven’t had this in any MacOS in decades in any other application. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help anyone can give. It’ll be appreciated.
Thanks for letting me know it’s not just me or something that’s wrong with my install. It’s one of those tiny fleabite annoyances that I was accustomed to when I had to use a PC. I thought I left that all behind now that I work remotely.
I’ve already got a fix in the works, and as soon as I get some additional things related to it cleaned up I’ll have a test version up for folks to try out.
This problem is a goof on my end and not so much on Apple (mostly). Luckily the fix seems to be pretty easy.
Good news, I believe I’ve got a fix ready to test.
If you get a minute, can you download the latest version of Acorn (build #16633 or later) from the following URL? Latest Builds from Flying Meat
Once that’s installed, Quick Look previews should work again on MacOS 15. If they aren’t, make sure to take a look in System Settings ▸ Login Items & Extensions ▸ Quick Look to see if it’s turned on there.
@LitaCheryl I’ve just put up a new version of Acorn which improves on things a bit, when you get a chance, can you grab and and let me know the results again? Latest Builds from Flying Meat
@JimD is right about the processes sometimes needing to be reboot. I’d also try that out once you download the new copy of Acorn. And your Quick Look extensions titles have changed as wells so they should look like this:
I am having the same issue in Acorn 7.4.6b1. Preview pane showing generic acorn icon after upgrading to Sequoia.
I downloaded Acorn 7.4.6b1 and made sure that Acorn 7 Preview is checked in Quick Look in System Settings. I restarted the mac after downloading and enabling the preference, but the preview is still generic.
I have Acorn 7.4.6b1 in the downloads folder, not the application folder.
If you open the image in Acorn and then save it, does that change anything? For instance, does it still show the generic icon, or does the Quick Look preview show up?
Like Infomongo, I installed 7.4.6b1 (it’s in the Applications folder and I deleted the older Acorn verions) and there was no change in the preview icon or the Quicklook results. The extensions show Acorn 7 in Settings. I rebooted several times with no change. I didn’t report back because I figured it was something with my Mac. I’m running a Mac Studio with an M1 chip.
Is there something from the System Library that should be deleted?
You might need to restart the com.apple.quicklook.ThumbnailsAgent app, as well as the Finder, but it really really really should work this time. And let me know if it does or doesn’t!
I’ve tested this out with a brand new install of MacOS 15.1, and all works.
