Copy and paste background to another spot to cover image

I know this has to be such a basic question but I can’t find the answer. I have a black background with an image I want to remove. I just want to copy a similar size of the black background and paste it over the image. How do I do this?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You can make a rect selection on the black background and then copy + paste it, which will then create a new layer with your paste. You can then use the Move tool to reposition the black pasted layer over what you’re wanting to cover up. Is that what you’re after?
