I’ve been coming across this problem intermittently and wasn’t sure if it was user error or not… I’ll open a new image, select something, make a new layer from it (cmd-j), reselect the original image, then select the Clone tool. Generally, this will have the Clone Source from the previous image I’ve been working with, so I press the Option key to set a new Clone Source and… nothing happens. No Clone Source cursor… at least, not at first. I have to wait a while before the Clone Source cursor will appear when I press Option.
I have to use Sticky Keys to keep the Option key pressed (only have the use of one hand), if that helps…
Gus – repeated tries. For instance, I had the problem, wrote the above post and, when I went back to the document, I could set a Clone source with the Option key.
I did mess around with setting the clone source w/ sticky keys turned on, and I couldn’t get the problem to occur. Maybe it’s fixed for you now (and maybe not)? I’d love to hear if it is.
OOOPS… I may have spoken too soon… just had a recurrence of the old behaviour (with 8.5). Pressing option wouldn’t set a clone source: I had to quit and restart Acorn to get the expected behaviour.
OK, I guess I have some more work to do in this area. I’m about to ship 8.5, so anything new I do in this area won’t be in that release, but I’ll see what I can do in the future.
And of course - if you manage to have reproducible steps, let me know!
I think maybe it’s when I forget to select the layer that I want to use as the source: I go back and select the layer from the layers list, then I can’t set a source with the Option key…
